Greek coloratura soprano Dimitra Kotidou, praised for her <splendid voice of very own color> and her <powerful characterizations of her parts>, in 2023/24 will make her theatre-debut at Staatstheater Hannover in the part of KÖNIGIN DER NACHT in Mozart’s “Zauberlöte” and perform this part also again at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf / Duisburg, in Barry Kosky's legendary production. In addition, she will make her debut as GILDA in Verdi's "Rigoletto" in stage direction of Guy Montavon and under the baton of Myron Michaelidis at the Cultural Center Heraklion.


Until the 2022/23 season, Mrs. Kotidou was a member of the ensemble at Theater Cottbus, where she made a highly acclaimed debut in the title-role of Donizetti's LUCIA di LAMMERMOOR and performed also QUEEN of SHAMAKHA in Rimsky-Korskaow's "Le Coque d'Or"the Mozart-parts of KÖNIGIN DER NACHT in  “The Magic Flute” and  DESPINA in "Cosí fan tutte", WOGLINDE in Wagner’s “Das Rheingold”, FRASQUITA in Bizet’s “Carmen”, FIRST NIECE in Britten’s “Peter Grimes”,  LE FEU, LE SOLEIL, LA PRINCESSE & LE ROSSIGNOL in Ravel’s “L’enfant et les sortiléges”., HANNCHEN in Künnecke’s “Der Vetter aus Dingsda”, PEPPI PLEINIGER in J. Strauß "Wiener Blut," LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD in Sondheim’s “Into the Woods” and DIANA DIVANE in Ken Ludwig’s “Lend me a tenor”.


Due to Covid, her planed debuts as LENIO in Martinů’s “The Greek Passion” and 1. WOMANin Fister’s “Die Prinzessin auf dem Kürbis” had to be cancelled.


Guest contracts led her as KONSTANZE in "Die Entführung aus dem Serail" to the Theater Bielefeld

and TEBALDO and VOCE DAL CIELO in Verdi's "Don Carlo" to the Theater Osnabrück, and KÖNIGIN DER NACHT to the Greek National Opera in Athens; where she gave her debut in the age of 19 as NINETTA in Mozart’s “La Finta Semplice” and later on, as a member of the Opera-Studio also performed CLARICE in Galuppis’s“L’Amante de tutte”.

Subsequently, she joined the Opera Studio at Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, performing in studio productions and on the big stage parts such as ZERBINETTA in “Ariadne auf Naxos”, TEBALDO in “Don Carlo”, OSCAR in “Un Ballo in Maschera” and PAGGIO in “Rigoletto”OLYMPIA in “Les Contes d’Hoffmann”, PAPAGENA in “Die Zauberflöte”, TAUMÄNNCHEN in “Hänsel & Gretel”, GIANETTA, in “L’Elisir d’Amore”, LE FEULA PRINCESSE LA ROSSIGNOL in “L’enfant et les sortiléges”, LA NOVIZIE in “Suor Angelica”, PRINZESSIN in Lange’s “Die Schneekönigin” and OPHELIA in “Die Flut” by Boris Blacher.

In addition, she appeared as BELINDA and 2ndWOMAN in Purcell’s “Dido & Aeneas” at the National Garden Festival; as CUPIDO SHEPHERDESS in John Blow’s “Venus and Adonis” and TOULA in the World-Premiere “The Murderess” by G. Koumentakis at Megaron Athens; as well as in the for Barbara Hannigan created part in Richard Ayres’ “No. 42 - In the Alps – an animated concert”.

Mrs. Kotidou's concert repertoire includes among other Bach’s Johannespassion”, Britten’s “Les Illuminations”, Händel’s “La Resurrezione” or Pergolesi’s “Stabat Mater”. She has appeared in concerts with major orchestras including the Athens State Symphony Orchestra, the Athens State Philharmonic Orchestra, the Greek National Radio Orchestra, the Camerata Baroque Orchestra, the Düsseldorfer Symphoniker and the Duisburger Philharmoniker.

 

The soprano has worked with conductors such as Giordano Bellincampi, Axel Kober, Marc Piolletand Jochen Rieder; and stage directors such as Dietrich Hilsdorf, Joan Anton Rechi, Renata Scotto, Graham Vick and Franco Zeffirelli.


Born in Athens, Dimitra Kotidou first studied pianoat the National Conservatorium of Greece and theory of music, counterpoint and fugue at the Kodàly International Music Institute, and later on opera-singing with Christina Giannakopoulou at the Athenaeum Maria Callas Conservatorium, from which she graduated with distinction and received the <Award for the most distinguished performance>.

She completed her studies in Mastereclasses with Linda Watson, Franz GrundheberKS Peter Seiffert, Bo Skovhus, and David Syrus and participated in the “18th-Century Opera: Handel & Mozart - Masterclass” by Thomas F. Kelly at the Harvard University.


Dimitra has a wealth of experience as an actress, having appeared in numerous Ancient Greek theatre plays, and being frequently praised for her <powerful stage presence> and <detailed characterization>.
